Allergenic extracts are bacterially sterile and antigenically specific liquids that contain allergens (usually proteins and/or poly-saccharides)) which are obtained from natural sources (e.g. dust mites, molds, pollens, epidermals, insects, and insect venoms). These extracts are available in specific concentration levels for skin testing purposes and for formulating various immunotherapy treatments (also known as hyposensitization or desensitization).
There are only three manufacturers currently making allergenic extracts for the U.S. marketplace. The only manufacturer that produces phenol free allergenic extracts, as well as the only one providing insect venoms for testing and immunotherapy, is listed here.
